Double rainbow caught from the Exploratorium over San Francisco!
What a beauty! Exhibit Developer and Exploratorium Staff Member Erik Thorgersen caught this rainbow (double?!) in San Francisco’s sky and over the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge while walking home from our new location at Pier 15, Saturday!

From shelf clouds to supercell clouds, those white and fluffy things in the sky are not always, well, white and fluffy. Some, as you will see, are just downright weird and wacky. Many are a portent of bad things to come

“While diving in the southern tip of Japan (in Amami Oshima), Yoji Ookata saw something unusual, something he had never seen before underwater but akin to the mysterious crop circles. On the seabed, about 80 ft. below sea level, was a precisely carved circular sand structure roughly 6.5 ft. in diameter. It had multiple, symmetrical ridges projecting from the center. Ookata called it a mystery circle and solicited help from his colleagues at NHK to investigate further.”
